"Muddy Treads" Recap

"Muddy Treads" Book Launch
August 14, 2008 - 9:10 p.m. - Los Angeles, CA

On my birthday, we dropped by photographer, director, and my pal, Peter Sutherland's "Muddy Treads" book launch and slide show at Family. In front of a packed house, Peter talked about his work's inspiration and recalled some pretty, pretty funny tales of growing up in Colorado. Since so much of Peter's personal life is reflected in all his bodies of work, it's great to hear some of the back story. I bought a book and had Peter sign it for me. Limited-edition "Muddy Treads" is published by Seems Books. Pick up a copy before they're all gone!

Kräftskiva Recap

Kräftskiva
August 8, 2008 - 10:34 p.m. - Venice, CA

Kräftskiva is a Scandanivian summer tradition where friends and families gather to suck on crawfish brain and butt and wash away memories of doing so by drinking a lot of booze. The whole dinner/evening is silly and gluttonous. Schnapps makes very bright and motivated peeps turn into babbling fools. Have I mentioned how amazing this party is?! Thanks to Team EK for hosting such a fun night!

Stephanie's Dinner

Stephanie's Dinner
August 5, 2008 - 8:45 p.m. - Santa Monica, CA

World traveler, old ass-art nerd, Stephanie Bogin stopped by for a long night of laughs and good eats. If you ever get to see this face in person, run towards her. Fun trouble on its way.

There's no better way to return to Los Angeles from two hectic days in New York City than to throw a barbecue for 150 of our closest friends! Our 6th annual post E3 Missed My Flight BBQ was a blockbuster! Big ups to Mary and Julian for hosting, Matt and Kiino for the tunes, and everybody else for making the day so memorable/fun/best!

Brunch, Beach Bike Ride, and Games

Brunch, Beach Bike Ride, and Games
May 11, 2008 - 4:25 p.m. - Santa Monica, CA

Because we can people. Because we live next to the Pacific Ocean where the air is (mostly) clear and the sun shines all the time. So much so that we don't need to Twitter about the good weather we're having or the awesome lifestyle we're living. Eat it.

Tracie's Housewarming

Tracie's Housewarming
April 20, 2008 - 6:47 p.m. - Burbank, CA

Tracie had a housewarming party. Her mom was in town. As was Marco from Manhattan. All I can say is that the day was full of laughter and lots of wacky-woo fun. Blame it on 4.20!

Silvio, Pedro, and Miguel sharing a late night hearty laugh.

Here's Pedro.

Our dear friend, Peter "Pedro" Fierlinger is in town. You might remember him from this Sesame Street gem (thank you, YouTube) or ye olde turntable.com days. The always-dreaming traveler, Pedro's decided to swing by our home for the weekend. I can't believe it's been a year and a half since he packed up and left for Mexico! We're so lucky to be a part of his pit stops, now if we could only find a way to visit him down south!

Lanha + Lexi

Lanha + Lexi
March 10, 2008 - 12:34 a.m. - Austin, TX

I'm in Austin for SXSW. Alexis, or Lexi as I affectionately call her, is visiting from Boston for a wedding. Calendar stars aligned and we found an excuse to meet up for drinks and some face time.

Lexi is one of my super BFFs. And she calls me by my first name, Lanha. I met her 17 years ago when she was assigned to me as my sophomore year suite mate at Boston University. I was studying science and she was studying communications. We spent many years together trudging down Lansdowne Street hitting all the night clubs. Venus de Milo on Thursday. Axis on Friday. Maybe another club on Wednesday or Saturday if we were feeling ambitious. It was with her that I could move any mountain and dance in cages all night. That's right kids. Dance in cages. But that was a long time ago. Today, we're reasonably reasonable adults. But when you get us together, it's the giddy gals all over again. When I'm with Lexi, I'm 19 again. And I wouldn't change it for the world.

Arkitip No. 0043 / Parra Party (11/07)
November 17, 2007 - 9:56 p.m. - Venice, CA

Arkitip hosted a magazine release party for Issue No. 0043, featuring Dutch artist Parra's artwork.

I figured out early on that the party swag, although an excellent canvas bag by Loomstate Organics also included boxes with Parra-scribble for those who dared to pick one up. Armed with this intimate knowledge, I wandered the party scoping each box carefully. I honed in on a carton with humor and Parra's trademark characters. Before I left, I asked the guest of honor to take a picture with the gift I chose to take home with me. Why? So that if I got stopped on my way out, I could at least show security my photo and explain that, "it was all good".

Big ups to team Arkitip (Robert and Snyder) for throwing us a west side event worth turning out for and to Parra for my present!

Hoffer Family Visit

Hoffer Family Visit
November 10, 2007 - 6:06 p.m. - Santa Monica, CA

I met Lori in the ninth grade. We were paired up for an Elizabethan English project. I remember that assignment fondly. In truth, we killed it. That triple A work will go down in the annals of Washington-Lee High School's AP English program as one of the most ambitious undertakings to date including costumes, hand outs, and puppets or something like that. 17 years later, I'm grateful she's still around to remind me of such times!
