Hello Kitty in Space

Michelle shared this "Hello Kitty In Space" video with me knowing our family would enjoy the video tremendously (we did). While it's near identical to last year's "A Toy Train In Space" video, it's just as fascinating to see an every day object in near space propelled by a child's imagination and doing.

Lauren Rojas, a 13-year-old Californian sent Hello Kitty up into the atmosphere to test the effects of altitude on air pressure and temperature for her school's science fair. More about the video:

MOCAtv's The Underbelly Project - Walk Through

I hope to see this artwork someday. From MOCAtv:

In 2009 the Underbelly Project project began four stories underneath the skin of New York.

For 100 years, a massive subway station sat unfinished, unused, undiscovered.

Over the course of a year, artists were secretly escorted into that station to leave their creative mark.

Unobstructed by the pressures of commercial sales, email or daily routines, each artist painted for one full night.

The original entrance has since been removed and darkness has reclaimed the station. It has become an elusive pirate treasure of contemporary art.

In Conversation: Jeffrey Deitch and Lawrence Rinder on Barry McGee

Fascinating talk. Jeffrey Deitch tells his story of his budding relationship with contemporary, street and folk artists, Barry McGee. He also shares his thoughts on street art. I especially love this quote, "I've worked with hundreds of artists. Some of the great artists, but I don't have any hesitation in saying of all the artists I've worked with, it's Barry who's my favorite. And... because it's not just working with the art, working with the ideas. It's Barry's humanity. It's the phenomenal circle of other artists, musicians, other creative people who he brings with him. So... Barry changed my life. I think a lot of people who follow Barry's work can say the same thing."

You may have heard that I have a new project called Atoms for Peace.The name comes from some shows of The Eraser that happened a couple of years ago with Mauro, Joey, Nigel and Flea.We got a big buzz from them and discovered loads of energy from transforming the music from electronic to live, and so afterwards, we carried on for a few days in the studio and decided to make it a loose, on-going thing. Immersed in the area between the two…electronic and live.The first tune we'd like you to hear is DefaultA 12" vinyl version will follow next month and an album will eventually follow that next year.

The exhibit introduces the third and latest installement (wave3) of The Covers print edition series; the first NYC screening of Trilogy, a groundbreaking remastering of the 3 original Star Wars classic movies; and the release of Kostas Seremetis Simulation Story, a 32-page volume published by New York Art Department available at The Hole shop and here.
