MOCA has launched the first and only dedicated contemporary art channel to be part of YouTube Original Channels:
The Museum of Contemporary Art presents MOCAtv, a new contemporary art
video channel for the expanding, international, online audience
interested in visual culture. Developed as a digital extension of the
museum’s education and exhibition programming, MOCAtv is the first and
only dedicated art channel to be part of YouTube’s original channels
announced October 2011, and is part of YouTube Education, a collection
of more than 700,000 videos on a wide range of educational topics from
math to science, history to geography. Views of educational content on
YouTube more than doubled during 2011 and in just the last year, the
number of subscribers to YouTube’s educational channels also more than
doubled. MOCAtv will add curated and original videos to inform, educate
and engage this global, interactive audience about contemporary art and
its intersection with film, video, music, performance, dance, music,
comedy, and more.
The YouTube Curated By Chris Johanson clip is one of many videos I'm excited about. So stoked for the upcoming programming.Tune in... art is for everyone, especially you!
Best known for his legendary poster for the 1964 blockbuster surf film The Endless Summer and his album covers for the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street, and The Grateful Dead Skeletons in the Closet among others, John Van Hamersveld has built up a wide-ranging body of work over a career verging on its sixth decade. The iconography of his oeuvre runs deep.
Okay if this doesn't make you feel saggy... it should be noted that I auditioned for Season 2 and secretly hope that my audition tape is dug up someday. 20 to 24 year olds... go for it!
Warning! Tearjerker alert! Check out Korean orphan Choi Sung-Bong's performance on Korea's Got Talent. There is no way a person can watch this video and not shed a few tears for this boy. And that's before he even starts singing. His story is heart wrenching. I hope he's the real deal.
Everyone's saying Choi Sung-Bong may be the next Susan Boyle. Good luck, young man! May you go very far in this competition and more importantly, may you find love and family and go farther in life.
I can't believe we've been hosting our summer kick off barbecue for nine years now! But there you have it. Nine years of post-E3 fun. The crowd has changed from electronic entertainment industry folks-only to a big ass party for our creative cabal.
Thanks to Toby and Michael for hosting our party for the third year in a row. Thanks to Kiino and Matt for hooking us up with tunes. And thanks to all our friends that made the day fun and special. We are looking forward to the 10 year anniversary party, next year! See you then.
I am so grateful that there are some people with lots and lots and lots of free time on their hands! Someone loves Hayao Miyazaki very much! [Thanks to Mike Steel for this amazing clip!]
We at i am 8-bit Productions are quite the fans of Mr. Conan O'Brien, and for the past week, in alliance with our good friend, LA-based artist Mike Mitchell, creator of the inspiring "I'm with Coco" image (pictured above), have been spreading the word about the creative injustice currently underway in the late night sector.
We're also leveraging this PR bonanza to actually do some good in the world, given the recent tragedy in Haiti. We've already raised over $2,000 for PlantingPeace.org, and we're working with the Red Cross for Monday's rallies (see below).
So here's the deal:
With the support of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien staff -- and even the legendary redhead himself -- we're orchestrating several rallies across the U.S., with the primary one being in Los Angeles, right in front of Mr. O'Brien's studio:
Monday, Jan. 18, 2009 12pm to 4pm (RAIN or SHINE)
Sidewalk in front of Gate 2 Universal Studios lot 100 Universal Plaza Dr. (off of Lankershim) Universal City, CA 91608
Aretha Frankline belted it the best, "R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Find out what it means to me..." What's going on in this country? Does everybody need a beat down?!
Yes, I'm sharing with you two commercials for Softbank. But they're not just any commercial. These special spots were shot by Spike Jonze, star Brad Pitt and are for the Japan-market only. And they're a little kooky and very sweet. The soundtrack by Department of Eagles is available for download here. Enjoy! [Big ups to We Love You So]
In just a few short weeks, we will be launching a new online program called Creative Time TV. It will present some of our favorite videos and even a couple we make ourselves. The first awesome series on Creative Time TV is a show by Howard Silver featuring interviews with creative visionaries.
If you are an animator or filmmaker or just plain handy with this kind of stuff, we invite you to take a stab at creating a motion graphic that can be used as Creative Time TV’s logo. The only requirement is that you use the current Creative Time logo in some way, and that it’s clearly a logo for a program called “Creative Time TV”... An eps of our current logo can be downloaded here. If you need our house font, please contact us using the information below. We encourage you to make motion graphics that are short and sweet, and to add some music if you can. You might want to think about ending the graphic with the word “presents,” to make it easy for us to introduce what we’re doing. All video will be made with standard ratios.
Team CB hosted their 5th Annual Oscar Party with a couple dozen of their closest friends. Not too many tears were shed this year although it was agreed upon that the James Franco/Seth Rogen comedy bitwas the highlight of the night. Oh... that and watching Sophia Loren want to maul the other women on stage. Glen won the Oscar pool inching ahead by voting for his boys. Thanks T and B for hosting another fulfilling Oscar night!
It's nice to have friends in Hollywood. An old high school BFF of
mine took me to her "office" which happens to be on the Universal
Studio lot. Nevermind the rain, we grabbed a golf cart and zipped
through a bunch of different worlds together for lunch. Thanks for the private tour, Cindy!
Cindy: Guess which set this is? Me: Oh I know. I know! It's Lost! Cindy: Uh, no. You know where we are right? Universal Studios. Steven Spielberg Way... Me: Oh I know... Umm... Cindy: The film's from a couple of years ago?! Loretta, you know right? Loretta: I totally know. Me: Oh I totally know! Umm... Umm... Cindy: Aliens? Destruction? Tom Cruise! Me: I know. I know! Cindy, as we're driving off: War of the Worlds! Me: War of the Worlds! I totally knew it!
Colbert: Aren't you just proving that Obama's going to be Socialist because the poster... you're saying the poster belongs to everybody, right? Come on, turn a buck on this thing, man!
Fairey: I benefit from this in other ways. One is, Obama will be President in a few days.
