LA Adicup 2008

We spent a beautiful afternoon at adidas' third annual Adicup, a soccer tournament for the lifestylist community. Sure there were a lot of short shorts and high tube socks worn by non players, but nobody was complaining. The day was filled with lots of sun (I mean lots) and fun. Friends and family from all over the LA metro area came to cheer on their favorite team made up of magazines, fashion brands, radio stations, and other cool posses. Organic fare was provided by the Green Truck and DJ King Britt had the crowd swaying if they weren't playing. A great way to kick off summer! More soccer please!

The name Peter Knapp instantly brings to mind the glossy pages of Elle magazine, as the publication’s legendary Artistic Director from 1960 to 1964 and then again from 1974 to 1978. As Knapp brilliantly showcased the works of celebrated photographers in the pages of Elle, he was simultaneously crafting a personal oeuvre of photographs that shed light on the controversial world of fashion and modeling.

An engaged audience packed the house to see artists Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, and Simone Legno chat, tell stories, and educate the masses about their art work. The panel discussion was moderated by Eric Nakamura, publisher and co-editor of Giant Robot who kept the artists focused on discussing how Takashi Murakami's body of work influenced their own. Overall, a wonderful way to spend an evening supporting friends and exploring the museum with little traffic.

Arkitip hosted a magazine release party for Issue No. 0043, featuring Dutch artist Parra's artwork.

I figured out early on that the party swag, although an excellent canvas bag by Loomstate Organics also included boxes with Parra-scribble for those who dared to pick one up. Armed with this intimate knowledge, I wandered the party scoping each box carefully. I honed in on a carton with humor and Parra's trademark characters. Before I left, I asked the guest of honor to take a picture with the gift I chose to take home with me. Why? So that if I got stopped on my way out, I could at least show security my photo and explain that, "it was all good".

Big ups to team Arkitip (Robert and Snyder) for throwing us a west side event worth turning out for and to Parra for my present!
