I hate shopping for clothes. So when I see something I really like, I really want it (however I'm too frugal to buy it)! My birthday's coming up in a couple months. Someone want to pick up this color-me-bright Jonsi hoodie for me in a size small?! Gee, thanks. You rock!
In 1994, I was graduating college in Boston and I had almost every single t-shirt, dress, and skirt New York-based street brand, X-Girl sold at the time. Even when designers Daisy Von Furth and Kim Gordon sold the label to the Japanese, I remained faithful to X-Large's sister label for another decade. I rocked the simple downtown street style before eventually graduating to A.P.C. Nearly two decades later, I've recently gone back to my X-Girl roots happily rocking old wares I saved or inherited from other friends (note: I feel like my dad owning almost 20 year old t-shirts now. I never thought this would happen to me, but it has)!
I fucking love this video. It's a time capsule of downtown New York City pre-reality TV socialites. It's especially awesome to see a young and very fresh Sofia Coppola (pre-Milk Fed, marriage to Spike, and Oscar nomination) and Spike Jonze (pre-Oscar caliber film career). Linda Evangelista and Francis Ford Coppola make an appearance as well as the who's who in the hipster bible, but the real kicker is seeing a very young "it girl", Chloe Sevigny (pre-Kids!) at 2:28 modeling the X-Girl wedding dress. Thank you, YouTube for existing!
Kimberly Brooks: The Stylist Project, February 27 – April 3, 2010 Opening Reception: Saturday February 27th, 2010 6pm - 8pm
TaylorDeCordoba
is pleased to present The Stylist Project, a solo exhibition of new oil
paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Kimberly Brooks. The exhibition
will run from February 27 – April 3. The gallery will host an opening
reception for the artist on Saturday, February 27th from 6pm-8pm.
The Stylist Project is the first in a series of portraits of
renowned stylists and fashion industry insiders who have styled
themselves and posed for the artist. After delving into deeply personal
subject matter for her last two exhibitions – “Mom’s Friends” in 2007
and “Technicolor Summer” in 2008 – Brooks shifts her focus outward with
this new body of work. Here, she broaches the red-hot themes of
fashion, style and those omnisciently responsible for setting the
trends.
Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery is pleased to present Jay DeFeo: Photographs/Works on Paper, running from January 15th through February 27th, 2010. An opening reception will be held on Friday, January 15th from 6-8 pm.

I need some new trainers for boot camp. So while window shopping online, I stumbled upon these new Hello Kitty and ASICS trainers. No doubt the flashy Limited
Edition Gel-Lyte III sneakers will attract attention. Not exactly what I want to run in, but maybe something I wouldn't mind killing time in. The exclusive shoe comes in two patterns: a classic retro Hello Kitty print adorned
with mini stars in high contrast red and white and a Hello Kitty face with dollar signs in bold black and gold. Only available on Sanrio.com, New York, San Francisco, and Hawaii. $145 USD.
