SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS is proud to present new work by artists Kai & Sunny. Bridging the gap between fine art and design, the duo is inspired by imagery from nature. Natural forms are reduced to geometric patterns and figures then translated into large-scale installations, hand-pulled screen prints infused with copper and stardust, and unique letterpress prints.
The contemporary urban imaginary is constructed through a vast layer of information and mediums of representation. Urban portraits that synthetically depict this growing perception of reality are experimenting with new techniques to construct the contemporary image of the city.
Urban Zoom presents a selection of hyperrealist and experimental photo and video works by David Molander that go beyond medium specificity to depict contemporary urban and social landscapes. Transcending the surreal and expressionistic, the works in Urban Zoom create an immediate urban portraiture viscerally and intellectually experimental, yet simultaneously real.
ACME. is pleased to present Brion Nuda Rosch's first solo exhibition in
Los Angeles. The exhibition will feature Rosch's new body of work, which
adeptly combines sculpture, painting and collage with a formal, yet
humorous ease. As the artist states: "This is an exhibit of portraits.
My head. My shoulder. My arm. My knee. My dick. Bong rips at the
community ceramics center and work tables turned to paintings."
Rosch lives and works in San Francisco, and his previous solo
exhibitions include DCKT Contemporary (New York), Eli Ridgway Gallery
(San Francisco), and Greg Kucera Gallery (Seattle), among others.
MOCA invites you to a screening of Episodes of Starlite, a five-film series directed by artist Frances Scholz, adapted from a 2011 cycle of stories by Mark von Schlegell. Episodes of Starlite inverts archetypes of the fantasy genre and art history, from the points of view of gender, art, and pure film-making.
The films feature an ensemble cast, with appearances by Leslie Allison, Paul Giamatti, Susan Howe, Sergej Jensen, Kasper König, and Julia Scher, among others; produced by Cosima von Bonin and stop/the/bus productions.
A conversation with Frances Scholz, Mark von Schlegell, and Julia Scher, moderated by MOCA Curator Bennett Simpson, will follow the screening.

Ben Baseman survived the mass murders that took place in 1941-42 in cities across Eastern Europe, including his hometown of Berezne. After losing his parents and many loved ones, he fought for freedom and miraculously survived. Ben Baseman lived to the age of 93, having raised four children in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles that includes the artist Gary Baseman.
