David Berezin
January 21 – February 18, 2012
Opening Saturday, January 21st, 6-10pm
Jancar Jones Gallery is excited to announce an exhibit of new work by David Berezin, comprised of a selection of photographs and videos.
David Berezin creates compositions by collaging recognizable signifiers that beg to be read narratively, yet their meanings can only be inferred. His work mimics the styles of commercial photography but is wholly made with low-resolution stock photo samples on the computer. By invoking the medium of photography he creates a platform where the viewer expects to interpret an image and deduce specific meaning. While narrative is compositionally implied, the final photographs bear no information beyond the immediately identifiable characteristics of each respective image contained within.

OTHER BODIES: A COLLECTION OF VERNACULAR PHOTOGRAPHY
January 14 – February 11, 2012
ZieherSmith proudly presents 65 found photographs spanning the American 20th century, celebrating its conspicuous beauty and encapsulating a lifestyle of exquisite hubris, baffling habits and poetic leisure. Focusing on the eerie and bizarre found in everyday life, including odd family units, perverse couplings of awkward figures in vaguely familiar places, and solo views of predominantly male figures, the patina of the vintage prints are often enhanced by blurring caused by misfired flash-bulbs, over and double exposures, crude processing and care-worn edges. This singular grouping invites the viewer to see a crooked world through straight and narrow eyes and 65 ostensibly unrelated (and virtually untraceable) sources reinvented as a new, fleeting narrative.

Opening Reception Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 7‑10pm
On View November 19 – December 10, 2011
On Saturday, November 19, Corey Helford Gallery is pleased to present “Seasons In Supurbia,” the highly anticipated solo exhibition of original new works by Ron English, renowned street artist and master pop surrealist painter.
Considered one of the most prolific artists of our generation, English is the father of POPaganda, a term he coined to define his signature mash-up of high and low cultural touchstones, from superhero mythology to totems of art history, creating a visual language of evolution. Recognized for his stunning technique and inventive use of color, English’s artistic presence continues to evolve from illegal street murals to movie screens, where he is crowned “the Greatest Living Artist” in Morgan Spurlock’s 2011 film “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold.”

Chris Lux: Find Out Why They Call Them Pigs
November 5 - November 26, 2011
Opening Saturday, November 5th, 6-9pm
The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of new work by San Francisco-based artist Chris Lux, titled Find Out Why They Call Them Pigs. The show will consist of a selection of sculptures and drawings started during the artist’s recent stay in Italy and completed upon his return to San Francisco.
Inspired by the Animal Room (a collection of statues amassed by Pope Pius VI throughout the 18th century) in the Pio-Clementino Vatican Museum, Lux will address Roman and Etruscan symbology to create his own bestial menagerie. By likening rough abstract figures to prescribed animal counterparts, his grouping of forms invariably blends the ancient with the modern.
