Our beautiful Maine Coon kitty Godzuki changed cosmic addresses yesterday. It was unexpected as he had been acting normal all morning, even patiently hanging out with us while Lulu "pet" him (as seen above). If something was wrong, he didn't lead on. I'm shocked and sad our little lion's gone. When I posted the news of his passing, it was only seconds before condolences started trickling in. I wasn't surprised. Godzu was well loved and had friends all over.
Godzuki joined our family in April 2002. We got him to keep our other adopted cat, Atari, company. As a kitten, we couldn't tell he was a Maine Coon and we definitely had no idea he would become as big as he was -- in personality and size. Everyone wanted to hold him. And he was super cool about it. Some of our friends loved him enough to want to breed him, but alas, he was fixed.
Godzuki was one of the rare kitties that got cat-haters to like him. He easily stole hearts with his dog-like behavior. He was a pain-in-the-ass because he wanted and needed so much attention. He'd meow us to death sometimes if he could and he sure loved to play with water! Godzu could fetch (a trick he retired) and sit on command (a trick he did only a few days ago) and was often found snoring in different corners of our home. He was super friendly; always greeting us at the door and following us around the house. If we went upstairs so did he. If we moved from the kitchen to the living room, so did he. All he ever wanted was to hang out with us as much as possible.
Godzuki was an oddball. How many animals do you know eat kibble with a fork? He had a bigger acting and modeling career than most young talent in LA. He modeled in print. He posed for art. He even acted in an exercise video. People were attracted to him because he was attracted to them. A new friend, Kim, upon meeting him, instantly fell for his warm and fuzzy charms (she's wasn't the first and only to do so). A few days ago, she sent me an email with this message, "Just wanted to share some photos of Bear - our new cat! Thank you Souris for introducing us to Maine Coons - they really are the sweetest..." We're stoked Godzuki was able to influence Kim with her cat adoption decision! If one thing is true, Godzuki always left a lasting impression on people.
Godzu was a very happy fellow so we'll celebrate his life by smiling as we think of him. He was a big part of our family and we will miss his warm presence. Especially Lulu. Godzu was her big interactive toy, fuzzy pillow, and roommate. Already, she is looking for him. Atari too. Hopefully they will not miss him too much and instead become closer.
Thank you to everybody who ever loved him, your attention is all he ever wanted! Good night, Godzuki, you were one bad ass cat!
