Please join us Saturday, February 27th from 6-10pm at Receiver for the opening night of our latest exhibition.

San Francisco artist, Owen Schuh presents his latest work, entitled Pythagorean Nightmare. On display will be a drawing machine built from recycled materials and corresponding works on paper.

Inspired by the relationship between function and form, Schuh explores the cross-section of mathematical theory, biological process and mechanical engineering as it relates to his role as an artist. Infinite mathematical functions processed by physical means, the resulting works are testament to the one of the great mysteries of our world.Owen has been making paintings based on mathematical rules and algorithms for some time now. Although the rules vary from piece to piece the basic process is the same. Starting from some initial input (perhaps a few random drips of paint on a canvas) Owen employs a function to determine the output (e.g. more paint), that output then becomes the next input until either the function or myself are exhausted. Up until now Owen had always performed this work by hand.

The artist will be in attendance and refreshments will be served. "Pythagorean Nightmare" will be showing at Receiver until March 26th 2010. We hope to see you here!
