ECHO BEACH RETROSPECTIVE, 1978-1982: Surf Culture Art Exhibition
The show is part of The Standard Downtown LA Art Series and will close with a special reception featuring live music acts from The Growlers and M Phase on Thursday, August 13, from 7:00pm-10:00pm.
The Echo Beach style from the late 70s and early 80s inspired Quiksilver and Standard to create a limited-edition collection of original boardshorts. Headquartered on a 100-yard stretch of Newport Beach, the Echo Beach movement made a profound impact on surfing, culture and the surf industry as we know it today.
The show captures the essence of Southern Californian surf culture and includes period art, photographs, vintage posters, paintings, film, vintage beachwear and surfboards by Janette Beckman, Art Brewer, Gomez Bueno, Rick Griffin, Mike Moir, Jeff Parker, Mike Salisbury, Chuck Schmid, Peter Schroff, John Van Hamersveld, Tyler Warren and more.
