woodblock print of Zen by Shodo Iwagaki
Shodo Iwagaki is a Soto-Zen Buddhist monk and an artist living in Okayama, Japan. He has been living, praying and creating his artwork in Mairai-ji (Mairai Temple) which was an abandoned temple when he was sent over 30 years ago. Virtually every wall and ceiling inside the temple is covered with his woodblock prints and carvings with many lamps of Isamu Noguchi.
This exhibition shows his 11 artworks mounted on vintage indigo fabric as Kakejiku (scroll picture) ;
3 pieces are geometric patterns like circle, triangle and square and the rest 8 pieces are with Zen text which makes you feel peace and settle.
