Bob Dob was born and raised in the once lazy beach town of Hermosa Beach California. After his childhood dream of becoming a pro baseball player was taken from him due to a battle with cancer he gravitated towards music and art. Playing in a punk band for 10 years named Lunacy.
It has been said that truth can best be told through exaggeration of humor. The edginess Bob Dob casts upon his woe some bad-boy characters lend a sardonic aura of humor and pain. 'The moment,' captured in a character's frown, is echoed in perennial adolescent angst. He reaches across generations to communicate with the youth of today. His narratives depict figures in action as each character represents something we all want to be, say, or do, whether we're five or seventy-five. It's about the 'shadow side' we either lost along the way and have forgotten, or somehow exercise within ourselves on a daily basis.
He draws inspiration from his love/hate relationship with Los Angeles, painter Edward Hopper, Punk Rock, Classic Disney, Film Noir and James Ellroy.
New Paintings by Francisco Rodriguez Maruca
Francisco Rodriguez Maruca began his painting career in 1981. Since then, his artworks have been widely published, exhibited and included in numerous collections.
In recent years, he has devoted special attention to studying the language of painting developed throughout the centuries and recognized the importance of the premise defining beauty as the center of aesthetic theory.
His painting embodies ideas associated with the return to classical tradition and the resurgence of realism in fine art.
