Over the winter break I finally found an opportunity to enjoy the street art documentary,"NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting" by Montreal-based filmmaker, Pablo Aravena. Watching the film was like watching a who's who of the global graffiti scene.  A lot of old familiar faces (Jose, Ro, Doze, Kami, and Os Gemeos

to name a few) appeared before me and the film brought me back to a time when it was more about the art than the art opening. That said, it's important to see how the art form has matured over four decades and how the world has embraced the movement.

Thanks to Pablo, I've got a couple of DVD copies of "NEXT" to give away! "NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting" is a documentary exploration of graffiti-based visual art as a world culture. The filmmaker profiles the art form in nine countries including USA, Canada, France, Holland, Germany, England, Spain, Japan and Brazil. A combination of "vérité" moments and interviews with painters, "writers", designers, documentarians and other participants within the subculture, the film conveys the dynamism and creative energy of this significant emerging artistic movement.
