222gallery Philadelphia presents Musings, a selection of new works by photographer Samantha West. From rich painted hues to the bold black and white contrasts of photographic masters, the focus on sensuality and strength of the female form are further explored in the latest works by West. In Musings, the embraced femininity and old world sensuality powders a hypnotic contrast of voluptuous postures and warm oiled lighting. West handles such grace and ownership of the body with an honest and beautiful eye, revealing intimate ephemeral moments between herself and the women she captures in her photographs. Musings is an extension of her March 2008 show Chamber Made, at 222gallery in L.A.
Samantha West lives and works in New York. Her work has appeared in publications such as Vision Magazine in China, Vanity Fair in Germany, and New York Magazine. She has also been the principle photographer for the musical duo, CocoRosie, as well as having the privilege of shooting various other creative minds and hearts. A self-proclaimed Amazon, she is very much an artist of the moment, capturing the moment.
