ART SEASONS cordially invites you to the Opening Reception of Aesthetic Encounters on Saturday, the 16th of August 2008 from 3-6pm. Wine and some light refreshments will be served.

The cultural landscape of 21st Century China is continually evolving as the country develops at breakneck speed, breaking away from environment, cultural, and conventional constraints. Artists from the '70s and '80s have developed fierce individualized consciousness, and are unwilling to be confined by the likes of "mainstream vs non-mainstream", "institutionalized vs non-institutionalized". Instead they opt for the egocentric value system, which is where, Aesthetic Encounters arises from. Featuring nine young artists from Beijing, Chongqing and Guangzhou,this exhibition features artwork revels in their individuality and freedom of expression stemming from their experience of contemporary life, with the influences from Pop and cartoon culture that is sweeping across the younger generation of Chinese today.
