The MoCP is proud to present this exhibition of works commissioned by the Farm Security Administration (FSA); Dorothea Lange’s photographs taken in the American South during the Great Depression of the 1930s; images from Robert Frank’s book The Americans, and an extraordinary recent series by Dave Anderson depicting extreme poverty and isolation in southeastern Texas.
On the Road is presented in conjunction with the college-wide celebration of Beat culture in Fall 2008, while the original manuscript of Kerouac’s On the Road is on view at the Center for Book and Paper Arts. Also on view at Columbia College Chicago: American Alphabet by faculty member Judy Natal; The Beat Look: Nonconformist Fashion; the group exhibition Off the Beaten Road ; and much more.
