Tortoise will feature Shunichiro Nakashima's work exclusively from July 25 - Aug 8.
Nakashima creates jewelry using fiber, thread, beads and plastic. Silk and gold threads are hand dyed by artist himself, and necklace and bracelets made from cotton threads tied in knots that is rolled around a steel wire, are just few examples of his jewelry.
The colorful jewelry gives a pop image, but each work is an art piece created by Nakashima's detailed craftsmanship using techniques of weaving, twisting, and tying.
Born in Gifu, Japan in 1972. After studying dyeing in Tokyo National University of Arts, Nakashima has expanded his creativity to work as an embroidery artist, textile designer, and a jewelry designer. Shunichiro Nakashima has exhibitions in and outside of Japan. While exhibiting his work in and out of Japan, Nakashima currently lives in Kanazawa and teaches at the Kanazawa Arts + Crafts University.
