Gina Borg
Jancar Jones Gallery
May 9 - 31, 2008
Opening Friday, May 9th, 5-8pm
The Jancar Jones Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of paintings by Bay Area artist, Gina Borg. The exhibit will include abstract works on both canvas and paper.
At once, both highly structured and spontaneously considered, Gina Borg’s paintings reflect her acute attention to process and form. By employing a range of values produced from a single color, Borg is able to stretch and condense the repeated geometric shapes within each painting. In placing these monochromatic spectrums next to a second, often contrasting color, Borg creates an optical discourse in which each color value reacts uniquely to its adjacent value. Resulting in glowing, gradated surfaces, her geometric abstractions are meticulous ocular studies, driven by the plastic nature of perception and subtly influenced by both natural and built environments.
Gina Borg received her BA from the University of California, Santa Cruz and attended the MFA program in painting at Boston University. She has exhibited widely throughout the Bay Area, Los Angeles and New York.
Gallery hours: Thursday – Saturday, noon – 6pm and by appointment.
