Greg Lynn of FORM showcased his new Blobwall at the Sci-Arc Gallery tonight. I'd heard about it from my friends at Panelite, who produced and distributed the architectural material and Machineous, who manufactured the bricks.
The Blobwall Pavilion is made up of over 500 individual blob units -- the modern twist on the "brick". Using a low-density, recyclable, colorful plastic to create freestanding structures, the Blobwall looks organic, reminding me of the megamites at Coachella 2007. I imagine this Blobwall would've made an amazing fort in the woods of my childhood backyard. It would've also made anyone who stumbled upon it, smile.
To learn more about the Blobwall Pavilion, attend the exhibition discussion with Eric Owen Moss and Greg Lynn on Monday, June 16th at 7 p.m. More information here.
