Back in 1966, Percy Sledge’s overnight success must have seemed like the definition of beginner’s luck. Sledge scored huge with his very first record, the immortal “When A Man Loves A Woman” – an instant classic that’s come to epitomize Memphis soul. But obviously it wasn’t just luck: Sledge followed up with a string of R&B hits and a thriving concert career that continues to this day. His 2004 album, Shining Through The Rain, featured songs by Steve Earle, The Bee Gees and others, and proved that Sledge still had one of the most appealing voices in R&B. In 2005, he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
