La Playita is our favorite Mexican joint in the neighborhood. It doesn't have proper seating, but it does have so much flavor and personality. And you can stuff yourself for under $5.00. That's right, $5.00! Anyone we've ever dragged here has loved it. Only five blocks to the ocean, "The Little Beach" stand-up-and-eat hole-in-the-wall is your best bet for Mexican fare specializing in seafood.
Allora and Calzadilla

The collaborative artistic team of Jennifer Allora (b. 1974, USA) and Guillermo Calzadilla (b. 1971, Cuba) has been working together since 1995. A sense of play mixed with political critique exists in much of their work, which includes video, photography and sculpture, and occasional collaborations with activist groups. Allora and Calzadilla live and work in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and many of their recent projects have centered on the nearby island of Vieques, which until 2003 was used by the United States as a bombing test site. With work that often directly involves viewers and local communities, as well as the exhibition location, the artists suggest new ways of confronting, responding to, and acting in the world. For this presentation, the artists will create a new work commissioned by The Society.

MoCP welcomes artist and writer Mark Alice Durant as he discusses our current exhibition Robert Heinecken: Sex and Food, a Memorial Exhibition. Durant has written extensively on the nexus of photography, performance and cultural phenomena with essays appearing in journals including Art in America, New Art Examiner, Exposure, ArtUS, and Afterimage. Among his numerous publications, he is the co-author and editor of Robert Heinecken: A Material History (2003) and the author of Blur of the Otherworldly: Contemporary Art, Technology and the Paranormal (2006).
