Design Within Reach Brooklyn Heights in association with Time Out New York would like to invite you to:
LIFE DEFINED DESIGN: Time Out’s New York
The first installment of a series of photography exhibits at Design Within Reach Brooklyn Heights called “Life Defined Design” that examines the environment we live in, and thus, in a roundabout way, design. By looking at what design is not, we frame the space within which it has to work, and thereby what makes it great. Or: definition by omission.
Design thrives in chaos, and in its turn, design helps us thrive. And New York, in all its glory, is one of the more chaotic cities in the States (and not coincidentally, a hotbed of design). It is an ever-changing amalgam made up of people and their makings. Not always pretty, sometimes amusing, always intriguing and often challenging.
We like New York in all its diversity, opportunities and quirks, and have roamed the city through the public eyes of those walking our streets with their camera in hand, documenting the city and all that it encompasses. Doing so we found a number of photographers to be excellent guides, and we invited them to participate. And to kick things off, Time Out New York, as unofficial chroniclers of city life, leads in the series with an exhibition of their 10 best pictures from the last 11 years.
During opening night, on Thursday February 15, 2007, TONY’s prints will be auctioned through a silent auction to benefit the Food Bank of NY.
