Michael Richards + Seinfeld + National Lampoon = Twisted Popular Culture.

Mike Clemente created this "lost" Seinfeld episode for National Lampoon. In a familiar comedic setting, it's still very disturbing to watch Michael Richard's freak out. I only wish a very thankful Mel Gibson had made a cameo appearance in this clip. Richards' racist rants were the coup de grâce to his flailing career in entertainment. They say it happens in threes. So who's next?

Taylor De Cordoba is pleased to present Loud and Quiet, a solo exhibition by San Francisco-based artist Andrew Schoultz. The exhibition will run from December 2nd, 2006 thru January 13th, 2007. The gallery will host an opening reception for the artist on Saturday December 2nd from 6pm-9pm.

In his first solo exhibition at Taylor De Cordoba, Schoultz presents a new series of drawings and paintings. Through the use of unexpected visual combinations, he critiques environmental crisis, economic inequity, war and political corruption. Schoultz takes cues from graffiti, folk art, medieval manuscripts and American currency to create his kinetic style.

The choice to photograph at night is about exploration and the ability for genuine discovery in a familiar world. Night transforms landscape from something recognizable and known into something felt and seen.

Michael Dawson Gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Los Angeles of San Diego based photographer Scott Davis. Los Angeles Night will feature Davis’ large format platinum contact prints of both familiar (the Hollywood sign, Sunset Strip, and City Hall) as well as unknown views of the nocturnal city. Davis began using a view camera in 1994. In 2002 he built the 16 x 20 inch view camera used for the photographs in the Los Angeles Night series.

Please join us for spicy egg nog, Christmas shopping, and the opening of James Quinlan's ABSTRACTS. Starting at 7P and raging until 1AM, the store will be jam packed with Christmas goods and we will be featuring a small group show in the store while James Quinlan's ABSTRACTS will be featured in the gallery. Look for pocket size abstracts to use as stocking stuffers! Ghettogloss will be projecting obscure Holiday films on 16mm outside on the building while playing punk rock Christmas themed music inside. Deformed Christmas cookies will be served.

James Quinlan's ABSTRACTS will be featured in the main gallery.These paintings are derived from drawings done around New York City. James Quinlan was born in Newark, New Jersey, and has lived in New York City since 1979. He has shown at several galleries in New York. He has also been in bands and made short 16mm films. He is employed as designer for the New York Times.

Richard Nickel is remembered for his brave and lonely stand to protect Chicago’s great architecture and for his dramatic death in 1972 in the rubble of the Stock Exchange Building. Trained under Aaron Siskind at Chicago’s Institute of Design, Nickel is also remembered for his photographs. Richard Nickel’s Chicago, by Richard Cahan, author of the critically acclaimed Nickel biography They All Fall Down (1995), and Michael Williams, features more than two hundred never-before-seen photographs of Nickel’s Chicago. Cahan and Williams will sign books and give a brief talk about Nickel’s life and work.

Artist Edgar Martins' work was most recently featured on the cover of Aperture magazine's fall issue. Portuguese by birth, Martins grew up in Macau, China, and in 1996 he moved to the UK, where he later completed an MA in photography and fine art at the Royal College of Art. He has exhibited extensively throughout Asia and Europe and has received numerous awards for his photographic and literary work. His latest book, Black Holes and Other Inconsistencies, was awarded the Thames & Hudson and RCA Society book prize. The Diminishing Present, Martins' second book, was published in 2006. An exhibition of this work toured Lisbon, Oporto, Madrid, and New York; in spring 2008 Aperture will also publish images from this body of work. Edgar Martins lives and works in the UK.
