Senior industry sources have revealed to Next-Gen.Biz that the E3 industry event, in its present form, has been cancelled for next year and the foreseeable future.

Image The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) shindig has been a staple of game industry life since the mid-1990s. However, we understand the larger exhibitors have jointly decided that the costs of the event do not justify the returns, generally measured in media exposure.

Publishers believe the multi-million dollar budgets would be better spent on more company-focused events that bring attention to their own product lines rather than the industry as a whole.

Well placed sources say the news that larger exhibitors were pulling out had prompted urgent meetings among publishing executives. They decided that, without the support of the larger software publishers and hardware manufacturers, there would be no point in continuing.

ESA president Doug Lowenstein will likely announce the news some time within the next 48 hours, possibly on Monday. It's possible that the ESA will seek to limit the damage by organizing some form of lesser event in May, but it's clear that the days of an industry event attended by all the major publishers, spending big money, are gone.

Calls to ESA staff are not being returned at present.

LA - Festival of the Chariots (07/30/06)

The 30th Annual Festival of the Chariots will roll into Venice Beach on Sunday, July 30, 2006. The festival commences at 10:00 a.m. at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium and proceeds south on Main St., with three fully decorated, four-story chariots leading a colorful parade toward the Ocean Front Walk Plaza.

The Festival of the Chariots includes a free feast for thousands, free entertainment and exhibits and booths all bringing together the finest in Indian culture. The festival celebrates Lord Jagannatha, the Lord of the Universe, and is put on by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The Festival of the Chariots is now performed in every country across the world and dates back thousands of years to Jagannatha Puri, India.

Friends, Jesus and B treated us to dinner at Lilly's on Abbott Kinney. We love/hate this place. We hate that sometimes the maitre'd is short-fused, the service is slow and they never get the order quite right (too little waiters juggling too many tables). We love the patio, which still allows smokers the liberty to light up, it's local and the food's pretty good (most of the time). Bon appetit and Salut, friends!

compact/space is pleased to announce If you lived here, you’d be home by now, an exhibition of photographs, paintings, video and live installation by Ian James, Cathy Kim, Glenna Jennings, Meghann McCrory and Chelsea Molnar and Charchi Stinson curated by Eve Fowler.

Collapsed homes, scary bushes, rock-throwing sessions, ESL lessons and ex-lover baseball cards abound in this group show about how humans try to leave evidence of their respective passages through space and time. The artists observe and/or create their own architectural realities, which are ultimately rendered uninhabitable for public, personal or physical reasons.
