
Printed Matter Inc. is pleased to announce the launch of Lovett/Codagnone's new publication Lovett/Codagnone on May 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. For the occasion, Printed Matter is pleased to present a display of related works by the artists, curated by Lia Gangitano, which will be on view through Saturday, May 27th. Printed Matter is located at 195 Tenth Avenue at 22nd Street.
Published by Charta, Lovett/Codagnone documents the history of the artists' creative partnership, from their earliest works addressing the assimilation of gay culture by mass aesthetic consumptionfashion, music, entertainmentto their later performances reflecting on identity and the inadequacy of language with respect to the complexity of relationships.
The works on display include ephemeral objects that retrace untold actions, private performances, and intimate distribution methods. A pair of intertwined neon nooses and a double leather hoodeach a residual sculpture from the durational performance/sound installation, EACH MAN KILLS THE THING HE LOVESwill be installed in Printed Matter's front window.
Inside, recent editions in leather and glass will be showcased along with studies, drawings, and posters related to central works by Lovett/Codagnone. A series of photographs, I didn't do it, produced for Honcho magazine in 1995, will be exhibited for the first time.
John Lovett (b. 1962) and Alessandro Codagnone (b. 1967) have worked together since 1995. Their practice encompasses a range of media that includes photography, sculpture, video, installation, and performance.
Lovett/Codagnone is priced at $34.95 and is 144 pages. The publication includes 153 reproductions, most of which are in color, and essays by Lia Gangitano and Octavio Zaya. Lovett/Codagnone is available at www.printedmatter.org.
