We traveled 40 miles to eat cajun-style dungenese crab, shrimp and crawfish at the Boiling Crab in Garden Grove, CA. It was worth the forty-five minute wait, the eye-balling from the locals and the burning flesh of my lips.

This panel features three generations of conceptual artists and all three artists have shown in this gallery space over a three year period.

Stephen J. Kaltenbach, a pioneer conceptual artist having worked in New York in the 60's, is best known for his Artforum advertisements, bronze sidewalk plaques, room environments constructed at the Whitney Museum & San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His work was seen last year at ANOTHER YEAR IN LA and the Konrad Fischer Gallery in Duessldorf, both galleries, concurrently, showing 40 year surveys of his conceptual art.

Stranger Than Fiction will include short video pieces (up to 12 minutes long) that combine real life with performative acts. This event will showcase works that manipulate the sense of what is real, by highlighting, subverting, or acting upon it-- documents which capture mundane, extraordinary, or surreal events occurring in the everyday.

SEND: one DVD per entry (exhibition quality, no complicated menus please). Label DVDs with artist name, contact information, title of piece, year, and running time. Include a short description and short artist bio no longer than one page total. Include SASE for returned materials.

I need to get my ass to Iceland. I want to visit a country that hires ministers of mushrooms for construction projects (they are government workers paid to ensure that if a public works project is going to be built that they do not disturb or displace fairies, wood nymphs, trolls and other magical folks). It's easy to see where Bjork channels her powers from. The whole country is drinking the same water. Amazing. Also, once I went to visit friends in Stockholm. And my handsome friends in Sweden told me that their neighbors in Iceland were crazy hot. I want to see those super beautiful people in person.

CalArts Community Arts Partnership /Plaza de la Raza Theater Program Presents the Premiere Production of UPSET!

In May, the CalArts Community Arts Partnership (CAP)/Plaza de la Raza Theater Program will present the premiere of UPSET!. Centering on the dual narratives of police brutality victim Rodney King, whose case was a catalyst for the 1992 Los Angeles riots, and forgotten civil rights pioneer Claudette Colvin, UPSET! will open on May 5, 2006 at Plaza de la Raza in Los Angeles.

The play previews on May 4 for a two weekend run at Plaza de la Raza and will also be presented at REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater) in downtown Los Angeles on May 26 - 27. A complete performance schedule appears at the end of this release.

Kaila D'Sa is a voice of many souls. Kaila's passion is heard in every note. This singer/songwriter is connected to his roots and channels them in the songs he sings. Kaila will take you to many places with his melodies, his guitar playing and his overall vibe.

The Gallery at REDCAT presents the work of Marseilles-based artist Mathieu Briand in his first solo exhibition in the United States. Briand works in various installation forms with computers, electronic music, robots, video and technology to explore systems of stimulation, play and perception. For his exhibition at REDCAT, the artist will create a new video installation that allows viewers to observe the rotation of the earth--part of a new body of work that investigates the fantastical future promised by Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Kathryn and Dan's four-legged family member, Beta, has some life. Look at her...chillin' like a villain. No cares, no worries. She's kind of looking a little gangsta too. What a pimpin' little lady.

On a related note, my aunt/uncle are fostering American Staffy puppy. Daisy is nine weeks old, white with tan patches, and has a chubby round belly. She has a sunny disposition, sleeps through the night, and is already housebroken with a doggie door. Her foster mother, Mica, who is 9 years old, is training her to walk on a leash and sit.

There Can Only Be One.

TomKat had a baby girl today and they named her Suri. Friends are pinging me with the news. Not because we care about the Scientology spawn, but because from here forward, when I introduce myself, I may need to gear up for, "Oh you mean like Tom and Katie's baby?"

My name is Souris. It means, "mouse" in French. We Americans have bastardized its pronunciation. I personally haven't a preference for how you say it. Friends say Sori, like Lori (this is how I introduce myself to strangers). However, my family pronounces Souris like, Surrey, England because it's closer to the French pronunciation of the word. And now closer sounding to TomKat's kid too.

On a side note, Brooke Shields gave birth to her baby girl, Grier today too. Isn't it ironic?

Living Homes.

Pre-fab homes have really hit this country by storm (thanks to dwell magazine). So it’s been really interesting watching this prototype Living Homes pre-fab building go up 1.5 blocks from my own home. I’ve been watching contractors pour/build the foundation for the past six months and a few days ago, nearly the whole unit was plopped into place. I have to say, I think architect Ray Kappe did a fine job. The unit itself is lovely, but the concept is striking as stated in their tagline, “Good homes that are good for you.” It’s only appropriate that this showroom house is in Santa Monica; my only wish is that they keep the pre-fab pricing affordable. It’s going to be exciting to follow the progress in the next months to come.
