Pre-fab homes have really hit this country by storm (thanks to dwell magazine). So it’s been really interesting watching this prototype Living Homes pre-fab building go up 1.5 blocks from my own home. I’ve been watching contractors pour/build the foundation for the past six months and a few days ago, nearly the whole unit was plopped into place. I have to say, I think architect Ray Kappe did a fine job. The unit itself is lovely, but the concept is striking as stated in their tagline, “Good homes that are good for you.” It’s only appropriate that this showroom house is in Santa Monica; my only wish is that they keep the pre-fab pricing affordable. It’s going to be exciting to follow the progress in the next months to come.
