Internationally acclaimed Chinese film maker Jia Zhang-ke explores globalism and the rapid cultural and economic changes happening in contemporary China through the lives of the twenty-somethings who come from China’s remote provinces to live and work in Beijing’s World theme park. Dislocated and alienated, the lives of these young workers unfold amid replicas of global attractions including the Taj Majal, Eiffel Tower, the great pyramids of Egypt and even the Manhattan sky line.
