Mahiro Maeda is one of Japan’s most beloved visionaries. Working as a an animator for PORCO ROSSA and then achieving acclaim for his character designs in NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. His directorial debut BLUE SUBMARINE NO.6 was well received domestically but garnered little attention abroad. He followed that effort with the widely popular “Second Renaissance” in THE ANIMATRIX. His last project was the remarkable retelling of O-Ren Ishii’s childhood in KILL BILL VOL.1 as the key animator. GANKUTSUOU is Maeda’s triumphant return to the director’s chair and a surefire delight for fans of anime everywhere.
