THE SLOMO VIDEO FESTIVAL AND DVD

120 ONE MINUTE SLOW MOTION VIDEOS
SloMo Video is a unique creative collaboration of video artists and filmmakers from around the world. We put out an open call on the internet for submissions in April 2005 and are accepting video works of slow motion, exactly one minute in length, until July 15th. Would you like to submit a video?

THE MINUTE BY MINUTE
Stop and smell the roses! Leap into that k-hole! Rubberneck your own own navel for a spell! Celebrate a savory moment... its the human way! Remember when you were a kid and you could stare at ants crawling around for hours, or just space out and look at the ceiling or the patterns on the floor? SloMo Video is a recreation of that meditative place in the present. It is a video experience that isn't afraid to put a 78 record on at 33 1/3rd and kick back in a beanbag to ponder the mysteries of space and time.

THE PLAN
SloMo Video will screech into towns around the world, put on the brakes for a few hours, turn time into taffy, and turn the usual expectations of a video show on its side (and inside out). It will pull the audience through a molasses-tinged warp of catastrophic visual and audio beauty. A DVD of the videos featured in the festival will be also be available.

OVERTONES is pleased to present “Lucid”, a special exhibition that extends art beyond white gallery walls and into the community at large. The exhibition was organized by artist Brian Moss, in collaboration with members of the The Wellness Community, West Los Angeles and is a culmination of a project that focuses on providing a creative outlet and support to cancer patients and survivors.

“Lucid” is the last exhibition of the season—OVERTONES will close for the last part of the Summer, undergo an expansion during the month of August and reopen in September—we hope to see you here before our Summer working vacation, to help us usher in the next chapter!

Bradley Beesley's surprisingly touching look at the band utilizes home movies and unbelievably intimate access to provide a portrait of a group that epitomizes the do-it-yourself ethos at the heart of American alternative culture.

"I'll Speak, You Sing"

Zach Feuer Gallery (LFL) is pleased to present “I'll Speak, You Sing” by the sound artist Momus in collaboration with Japanese performance artist Mai Ueda. For three weeks, Momus and Mai will improvise in real time for five hours a day in order to form a “space-producing” narrative. Their goal is to assist listeners and viewers in creating “mental soundscapes”.

For the past few years, Momus has been interested in the way that sound produces space in the mind of the listener. In “I'll Speak, You Sing”, Momus will fashion narrated landscapes for Mai's placement of song-objects. This will constitute the first collaboration between Momus and Mai. They have planned this project as an intimate three week experience of “Platonic Love”: an unpredictable encounter in a space that they both share and create.

Miami - Kelly Tunstall "It's a Wonder" (07/01/05 - 07/30/05)

It's a Wonder, features the artwork of San Francisco based artist Kelly Tunstall. Opening reception to be held on Friday, July 1, 2005 from7:00-10:00 pm at Miami Art Lab. The gallery is located at 3117 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Coral Gables, FL 33134. The exhibition will be available for viewing Monday through Saturday from 12:00-6:00 pm through July 30, 2005.

Kelly Tunstall, San Francisco-based artist, brings new figurative work to Miami Art Lab for her solo show “It's a Wonder.” A decidedly glamorous collection of painted works, Tunstall's gorgeous veneer belies a deeper examination of the intertwined nature of celebrity, class, beauty, and fashion. From Tunstall’s typical arsenal of acrylic, aerosol, pencil and gold leaf on wood panels, expect a polished, rich palette and the character-laden details that have attracted fans and collectors around the world.

dear friends, we have moved. please bear with me as my life is slowly pieced back together. the internets kick in on thursday. so does our first house guest. hotel HP has reopened despite the fact that we are living in a construction zone. our home will not be done for another four to six weeks -- the small price to pay for a little comfort. and by the way, we're booked through august. i think that's probably about when we'll unpack our boxes. hah la!
