i've spent half my week at e3 and all i got was this kind of scary photo with link from the zelda franchise.

this year, i didn't have enough free time to roam the expo floor as much as i would've liked. regardless, i had a good time bumping into friends and seeing the ouch! project launch. i'll post more e3 stuff later. but we're planning a big bash for tomorrow so i have to prioritize!

eh readers, fashion portal, fashion tribes wrote up a piece called "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Blogsphere". and i'm included! i tend to rock street wares and am not that fashionable, but i'm not complaining! keep on hustlin'.

LA - Open Call: Game Jockey Auditions

Turner to Hold E3 Auditions for GameTap "Game Jockey"

The press is invited to attend open call auditions for the role of "game jockey," an original programming host of Turner's new GameTap broadband entertainment network. Brian McFayden, MTV's recently added news anchor, will be hosting the event and Sundance from ESPN Cold Pizza, an avid gamer, will also be on hand.

The event will be judged by celebrities and Turner personnel, who will look for a combination of stage presence and game savvy. The winner at E3 will compete as a finalist in San Francisco, October 1-2nd, vying for a multi-show contract with Turner on the GameTap network.

The first network of its kind, GameTap allows subscribers to access a large library of games, from the early arcades all the way through console games and PC titles, using a broadband-connected PC. GameTap GJs will host the network's original programming. GameTap will launch this fall.

for me, E3, the electronic entertainment expo, starts tomorrow. so apologies in advance for knowing i'm going to slag on posts this week. but i promise i'll upload as many photos and blurbs as possible, should i not be too wasted from the sensory over-stimulation and schlepping back and forth between the halls.

as a games journalist/gamer, i'm stoked to see what's out there. crossing fingers, another katamari damacy exists (not including part deux). also, i'm itching to touch the xbox 360...joystick. what rumors are to be confirmed? i'm hoping, some are simply not true.

as a consultant on games and popular culture, i'm excited to see a project i've been messing with for the past couple of months come to life. everybody who's attending, please stop by the ouch! no pain lounge. free massages and good schwag are plenty. thanks for your support!

as a host, i'm juggling three to four house guests...in my one room studio loft. my home renovation's run over-time and so everybody's going to camp out in cozy quarters instead of living large. no doubt, it'll be outrageous and fun. i'm looking forward to our annual post e3 bbq. geekery and grub. i can't wait.

lastly, i'm looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces. dudes, i can't wait to catch up! hey stranger, if you're attending e3 and you see me, holla!

Poetry and electronic media merge in the Orange Lounge with Poetic Engineering, an exhibition of works by new media artist Yucef Merhi. Born in Venezuela in 1977 and now living in New York and Caracas, Merhi was trained as both an artist and a poet. In his works, electronic devices, Internet projects, computer installations, and video game systems are transformed into artworks that incorporate the artist's written words.

John Pham entered the indie comics scene when he won a Xeric Foundation grant to publish the first issue of Epoxy. Since then, his well-designed, manga-influenced comic magazine has gained recognition from such diverse media as XLR8R, Publishers Weekly, and The Face. After being forced by a Canadian design company to change Epoxy's name, Pham has produced mini-comics, zines, a sketchbook, and 1-Up magazine under the Substitute Life banner, as well as provided illustrations for numerous CDs and posters.

xbox 360 bitch!

i am not MTV's target audience. dumb down. calm down. you all watched the co-branded MTV slash xbox special tonight right? how does your stomach feel? are you shocked? or mainly disappointed? yeah, me too. i am looking forward to the release of microsoft's next generation console, the xbox 360. but tonight's TV unveiling left me, well...feeling annoyed and totally bummed out.

xbox if you were talking to your audience, why didn't you use any words? could you show me a little less ass and lame mini rock concert and just cough up some more deets please? i want to know more about the console that's going to soon consume me. wireless...mad cool (wait, are the controls going to be small enough for my hands?) giant ipod looking console, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (sweet dreams steve jobs). interchangeable face plates? kids will love it (i could care less). where is my technology? why are you not showing me all the super cool things i know you can do? and the games you did show? i don't know man. xbox, you're missing an opportunity to impress an entire audience of gamers. wilmer valderrama playing games? god, almighty. i understand you gotta program for the MTV audience, but WHY do it so...gah. what's the point. it's over. i'll see you at E3.

Having already stamped his claim on New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, Neck Face heads to London's dpmhi gallery.

Besides setting a new standard in the underground scene, the twenty-year old has also broken into the mainstream. His work, featured in a variety of mediums, has been featured not only in art galleries, but also in national publications like The New Yorker and The San Francisco Bay Guardian.

The dpmhi exhibition includes Neck Face paintings and drawings, as well as his work with maharishi. Limited edition t-shirts and books will be sold at the gallery.

today when i went to my mailbox, waiting for me was a copy of william gibson's pattern recognition, two cds for review, bills, and coupons for the local carwash. i've been meaning to read this book for awhile and now i have no excuse not too. anyway, i really love the inscription. big love randy. thanks for paying attention when i babble on. billy g. this weekend was spent running from one art opening to the next. i've posted photos from kozyndan's pilgrimage show at sixspace gallery and derrick hodgson and andrew pommier's the parallel campaign show at lab 101 gallery. we did stop by ryan mcginness' multiverse book signing at agnes b. on robertson but i failed to take any photos there (too busy chatting). the shows will be up for a little while so if you find yourself in los angeles, please check them out!

i mean really, what can i say? i love the street signs in our beach communities. it's springtime. and baby everything are in abundance. if you hop on over to the venice canals you'll easily catch flocks of ducks causing traffic jams crossing boulevards. i find it amusing although i can see how it can be annoying and possibly even dangerous for both, people and ducks. beach-goers, please pay attention over in venice.

oh, and going against everything you think you know about feeding ducks, please don't do it. our crap white bread does them more harm than good (thanks stuart for the tip).
