Please join us on Friday, June 3, 5-8 pm, to celebrate the opening of Judy Kermis Blotnick: Running Out and Eddie Martinez: A Big Ole Steely Dan Conversation at Allston Skirt Gallery. These shows will remain on view through Saturday, June 25.
Judy Kermis Blotnick: Running Out features paintings and drawings by this Boston-based painter who was included in the MFAs exhibition Traveling Scholars 2002, and whose new work deals with the time-honored, heavy hitting emotional duo of love and loss. With a shimmery new palette and imagery that struggles between free movement (cascading flowers, flowing water) and constraint (bundled sticks, circumscribed mirrors), Blotnick ventures out in dynamic new directions.
And Behind the Scenes at the Skirt, Eddie Martinez: A Big Ole Steely Dan Conversation presents new work by a young artist, formerly of Boston, now of Brooklyn, who applies his graffiti-like touch and skateboarder sensibility to the familiar images around him.
Martinezs work was recently exhibited at Gallery Loyal in Stockholm, where he was described as creating characters that appear to come from the same family each with the same haircut, usually wearing sweaters and the same beard, and definitely almost always with a baseball cap. do we know these folks?
