last week english artist banksy hit the museum of modern art, the metropolitan museum of art, the brooklyn museum and the american museum of natural history. he installed four of his own pieces of work, one in each museum, and sent photo proof to the must-read compendium of street art, the wooster collective. within 24 hours of the wooster collective posting banksy's exclusive photos, the ny times scooped the story. then NPR. and now, everybody else. the street art community is excitedly discussing/praising the happenings.
it's not the first time banksy has hit prestigious museums. last year he installed work at the natural history museum of london. but it's the first time stateside so american media is all up on it.

it should also be noted that banksy is not the only street artist that has ever pulled the wool over museum eyes. french artist, invader successfully installed his work at the louvre...in 1998!
it is a fun idea to reclaim the museums the way peeps reclaim the streets. and i'm happy for all those involved on a job well done. keep rockin' the establishment, please!
