"are you excited to be moving back to santa monica?" they ask. "yeah, but not really...cause the logistics keep getting in the way." i answer.
today is friday. today is the last true day to pack our home. we leave for washington d.c. early tomorrow morning and return late sunday evening. monday is meant for the salvation army, record shops to sell 200 cds, the post office, and the bank to cash in my coin jar. it's also meant for speed packing (whatever didn't get stored properly with packing peanuts and bubble wrap will haphazardly be collected). tuesday afternoon the movers arrive. wednesday we fly to lax with our two cats and start all over again in reverse.
so far, 64 boxes have been packed, tagged, and inventoried. magazine subscriptions have been rerouted. the superintendent of our building has been notified of our move-out date so that he can pad our elevator. mail forwarding has been initiated. airport drop-off and pick-ups, arranged. every kitchen cupboard is empty. the office is 70% complete. the bedroom is going to be a breeze (clothes in the armoire go directly into readied boxes). everything in the bathroom fits in one small file cabinet box. that's what's left. it's not a lot, but it's messy.
i'm going to be missing from this blog for a week, maybe longer, depending on how quickly i can hook up with the internet in santa monica. i'll get up another interview soon but i won't be around to post in general. thanks for your patience. ask me again in six weeks if i'm excited to be in southern california. sunkissed and smiling, i'll have a better answer.
