went to see radiohead tonight. it was brill. they played a very similar set to the north american tour launch at this past summer's rained-out field day festival. because i had seen radiohead already this summer, i passed on buying tickets for madison square garden. what the hell was i thinking 'cause i totally wanted to see them again. anyhow, my friend, sai scored two extra tickets within the last 48 hours and sold them to me at face value. sai's a good friend.
i noticed radiohead performed similar encore songs as 2001's madison square garden show. they exited the exact same way. i love radiohead too much to complain. i'll let them wrap up with my favorite, how to disappear completely anytime.
thom had a lot of energy and although not as chatty as this past summer, he actually had the crowd laughing a couple of times. his only political comment for the evening was, "what the fuck is schwarzenegger going to do, now that he's governor?" i love how thom dances. he looks as though he's having a spaz attack and pogos and it really gets the crowd going. radiohead is hard music to dance too but he can get everybody moving pretty easy.
i can't review the concert with gusto and as mellow as the music may be, radiohead concerts exhaust me.
on the way in, we caught a glimpse of john robinson, a soon to be famous high school kid from portland, oregon. he recently starred in gus van sant's columbine-inspired 2003 cannes palme d'or winner, elephant. he was sweet and greeted people nicely. he's the hottest 17 year old on the planet. i wanted to take a jump picture next to him but none of my friends would be the photographer. zut!
